Quartz special products

Working closely with leading manufacturers of quartz glass products, in addition to the standard type of quartz products like: pipes, rods, plates or blocks, we can also provide special products, unusual, partly standardized or according to customer requirements.

Wide range of special quartz glass products can be divided into categories presented below:

Quartz twin tubes

Double quartz tubes (twin tubes) are very often used in heating systems and infrared heaters. Well permeable to infrared radiation and resistant to high-temperature heating medium.

Pipes of this type are produced on a specific customer order. The size can be adjusted to the needs of the customer. When dimensioning double pipes, in addition to specifying the length, you must also specify the inner and outer diameter of the pipe and the width of a set (see figure on right).

Quartz flat and oval tubes

Sometimes it is necessary to use pipes with a rounded or oval profile. Depending on needs, they may be made of various types of quartz glasses (quartz glasses types are described here).

Pipes of this type are produced on a specific customer order. The size can be adjusted to the needs of the customer.

When dimensioning flat and oval tubes, in addition to specifying the shape and length ordered, you must also specify the width and height of the shape and wall thickness (see figure at right).

Rectangular and square quartz tubes

Sometimes it is necessary to use pipes with a rectangular or square profile. Depending on needs, they may be made of various types of quartz glass (quartz glasses types are described here). Standard dimensions of pipes with square and rectangular profile are given in the tables below.

The size can be also adjusted to the needs of the customer. When dimensioning tubes of square or rectangular profile, in addition to specifying the length, you must also specify the width (A) and height (B) of profile and wall thickness (S) (see figure at right).

Quartz profiles and bends

Sometimes it is necessary to use tubes or rods with special profiles. Depending on needs, they may be made of various types of quartz glasses (quartz glasses types described here).
Products of this type are produced on a special customer order. The size can be adjusted to the needs of the customer.  When dimensioning this type of products it is necessary to accurately determine the shape and dimension of the profile and the location and size of any holes. Sample shapes are shown on the right.

Usually the dimensions of profiles (a,b) are within the range of from 1 mm to 20 mm, wherein the ratio of width to height (b/a) is in the range of 1 to 10.

Multihole capilares

Is possible to make a number of connected together thin tubes (capillaries). Depending on needs, they may be made of various types of quartz glasses (quartz glasses types are described here).

Pipes of this type are produced on a special customer order. The size can be adjusted to the needs of the customer. When ordering multihole quartz capillaries is necessary to determine the amount of the combined capillaries (2,3 or 4), and the inner and outer diameter of a single capillary tube (see figure at right).

Typically connects up to four capillaries with internal diameters from 0,4 mm to 2 mm and an outer diameter of 0,5 mm to 30 mm. If you need a different size or a different number of capillaries - please contact us.

Quartz frits

A frit is defined as a porous filter composed of bonded grains of quartz glass. Frits are manufactured from the same high purity raw material as our tubing and rod, which results in frits (disks) of high purity, chemically inert.

Some applications of fritted discs include filtration of liquids or corrosive gas, heat diffusion, flow regulation, and chemically inert and high purity applications.

Choosing the correct porosity is key for success in working with glass filters. These frits vary in porosity according to grades that are expressed as 00, 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4. The table below shows the various fields of application for each grade of porosity. The pore size indicates the the largest pore in the disc, as well as the the diameter of the smallest particle retained during filtration.

Porosity class  Minimal

Fields of application (examples)
00 200 - 300 Liquid and gas distribution
0 150 - 200 Gas distribution

Fused Quartz Wool

Fused quartz wool has the same properties as pure quartz glass. The fibers are non-flammable and incombustible. The fibers maintain their usable mechanical properties up to 1050 °C. Fused quartz wool is available in the following forms:

  • coarse
  • fine
  • wool felts

Coarse 9µm Nominal Wool

Bulk Wool consists of woven basic fibers between 5µm and 15µm. The arrangement of the fibers gives the wool its curly appearance, which prevents compression of the material and improves the desired insulating qualities. The fibers are flexible and have excellent torsion and bending resistance. Standard specifications are:

  • size before rolling and pressing: 3,7 m x 1,6 m x 0,15 m
  • standard packaging: ca. 0,25 kg or ca. 1 kg

Fine 4µm Nominal Wool

Fine Wool consists of woven basic fibers between 1.5µm and 7µm. This product was developed to meet severe technical specifications required by markets that demand a larger specific area. Therefore, this wool offers more efficient thermal conductivity than our standard bulk wool.
Standard packing: 10 g or ca. 250 g

Felt (mats)

A Felt is quartz wool that has been impregnated with a starch binder to provide a stable sheet that can be handled, cut or fabricated to exact sizes. The binder can be removed by heating the Felt to 482 °C (900 °F) for 1 hour, or 250 °C (500 °F) for 24 hours. Binder content on the Felt is 4% - “5% by weight. Standard specifications are:

Standard dimensions:

  • 1 m x 1 m x 5 mm,
  • 1 m x 0,5 m x 5 mm,
  • 0,5 m x 0,5 m x 5 mm

Thickness:  5 mm (0,2 in)
Weight:      80 g/m  (2,3 oz/yd)
Density:     0,016 g/cm3 (1 lb/ft)

Other sizes are available upon request. Maximum size is 3000 mm x 1000 mm x 5 mm.
